Reaching Out To Help The Needy

Fleurieu Family Church has a passion to reach out and sow the love of Christ into community, both locally and internationally.  We believe it is a blessing to be able to help others in a practical way as well as through prayer and compassion – no matter where the need is.

This includes being involved in local community programs (Local Missions) as well as supporting programs in other countries (International Missions).  To date this has included organising Christmas hampers for local needy families; supplying funds and food for supporting local homeless people and others in need; building a bus shelter for local school kids; providing  funding to support the placement of Chaplains in local schools; and playing a major support role funding the operations of an orphanage in Kenya.

Outreach comes in many forms but they all have one thing in common – they’re all an opportunity to demonstrate Christ’s love.

Helping Locally

South Coast Christian Community Care

Fleurieu Family Church supports South Coast Christian Community Care (SCCCC) as part of its Local Missions outreach.  SCCCC is a local charity that provides assistance to those in the community who are doing it a bit tough. This assistance comes in many forms including things like emergency food parcels, emergency accommodation assistance,  helping with putting fuel in the car,  and much more.

South Coast Christian Community Care is supported by the churches across the Fleurieu and a number of generous benefactors.  It is manned by volunteers and operates from offices at Victor Harbor (08) 8552 5029 and Goolwa (08) 8555 2589.

School Chaplaincy

Fleurieu Family Church supports the local School Chaplains through the South Coast Schools Ministry Support Group Inc. which has been operating for more than 20 years as a fundraising body to enable the placement of Chaplains in the local schools through the Schools Ministry Group (SMG).  The Chaplains are engaged to provide Chaplaincy and wellbeing services at Victor Harbor R-7 School, Port Elliot Primary School, Goolwa Primary School and Victor Harbor High School.

They are a highly respected people in the schools and their effective work is a common acknowledgement amongst School management, teachers, support workers, students and families. Fleurieu Family Church sees the work of the Chaplains as a vital ministry in helping students and families work through their challenges.

Helping Internationally

Agape Orphanage Network

Fleurieu Family Church partners with Agape Orphanage Network (Australia) as part of its International Missions outreach program in Africa.  AON has a catalogue of sponsor opportunities, ranging from meeting basic needs through to supporting village farming ventures.

Agape Orphanage Network (Australia) Inc.’s purpose is to provide relief to the people of local communities in Eastern Africa.  There is an emphasis on assisting orphanages and meeting the needs of women and children through supply of food, safe drinking water, bedding, education, sustainable farming resources and more.

Many orphans and destitute children in Eastern Africa are left to fend for themselves as a result of losing parents to disease or other tragic circumstances.  Without the support of the orphanages, these children battle to make it through each day.

For more information about being involved in supporting an AON orphanage, phone Steve Pidd on 0455 308 668 or visit the AON Website.  Download the AON Catalogue and Registration Details here.

Kenyenya New Life Centre Orphanage

Fleurieu Family Church is a major sponsor of an AON Orphanage – Kenyenya New Life Centre Orphanage in Kenya. Children in the orphanage are sponsored by families within Fleurieu Family Church, with the church also supporting the wider needs of this orphanage. This has included funding special projects such as the purchase of a large number of chickens and the building of a large chicken coop so that the children can learn about farming and sustainability.

Samaritan’s Purse – Operation Christmas Child

For many years Fleurieu Family Church has joined with other local churches in the Fleruieu region to support the International work of Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child.  Launched each year around the end of June, the local team gather together to distribute the Shoeboxes for filling with assorted items that will be destined for the hands of excited children in many overseas countries.

What started with a phone call and one man suggesting a small project to pack a few Christmas ‘shoeboxes’ for needy children, has now grown into an International activity supported by thousands of groups worldwide.

In 2018, over 10 Million shoeboxes were distributed to needy children in 122 countries around the world.  The lives of children and their families are being changed dramatically every year through the gift of giving.

Fleurieu Family Church hosts the launch of the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox project and is also the drop-off point for collections of filled shoeboxes later in October.
